I am finding it difficult to provide a review that doesn't let out the whole plot. I won't rehash the blurb, but I would like to emphasize you shouldn't let the words "alien" and "tentacle" scare you. I've read a few other stories in this genre, and while I enjoyed some aspects, there were others that made me...squirm. That did not happen here. My Cameron is sweet, funny, and sexy, and the alien/human BDSM relationship is handled with Innes' typical compassionate care.What I really want to say about this story, other than how completely in love with George and Cameron I am, is how Innes approached a TPE-type BDSM relationship, albeit through a human/alien lens. Again, don't get hung up on tentacles because that is, as George might say, merely the mechanism by which he sees "how much pleasure I can make you give me, my Cameron." While giving up control might not be in your own wheelhouse, the way Innes describes George's actions and Cameron's reactions makes it easy to understand why others do. That is one of the key aspects to Innes writing I adore.As for the world-building, there's isn't a requirement for a major suspension of disbelief, but rather an intriguing opportunity to ask, "What if...". What I would love to see (Hopefully, please Shaw!) is the continued exploration of this alternate universe, either with George and Cameron, or for a few characters introduced in the story, especially Nicholas and Trip. Trip needs his story told (He's practically begging for it!), and Nicholas would allow us to dive even deeper into this fascinating world.This is an unbiased review: I'm not an ARC reviewer nor am I related to the author. I just loved George and Cameron, this intriguing world, and would love to see more of it. I hope you take a small leap and see for yourself. You will not be sorry. Is anyone really surprised I gave this 5 stars? Do I really need to explain why this is a 5 star book? I don't think I do but I'll give it a go.Leave it to MA effing Innes to write a book that is basically tentacle p*rn and make it cute and sweet and funny and oh so good. The smut was absolute perfection but that's a given (I mean come on this is Shaw were talking about here, that's to be expected) and the world was so good. I mean there is legitimate world-building going on here and I was really in. To. It. So into it in fact that if the aliens ever to come, I volunteer as tribute.Now I know true alien romances are for everyone, let alone anything to do with tentacles, BUT I do think this book will appeal to more than just freaks like me. First off, this is a character-driven romance (that is deliciously smutty) and the characters are STRONG. Camron is good-natured, a good friend, a great sub, and all-around a very real person. Which is something I always love. Normal people falling in love and living their best smutty lives. And there's George...*sigh* isn't he just dreamy? I'm not kidding, he's a dream come true for me haha. He's kind, he lets Cameron be himself, he's dommy but not blind alpha dommy like tends to happen in alien romances. He's perfect. I mean he's not perfect but he's also perfect.So yeah this is great. So well done and so accessible too. I mean I know I'm over here fanning myself, looking up at the stars because this is my jush but I also think this was done in such a way that even if this isn't your jush, you can still enjoy. It's a fun read. Plus true aliens (not humanoids) are rare in romance. Period. Add in the fact these aliens have autonomy, a culture, are low key into BDSM, and you got a book that I think is worth your time even if you are a little curious. And if you're then ah aren't you in for a treat. 20 stars because George is swoon. And yes I know that I say that a lot but oh...George is swoon.
