Book Warrior Fae Princess (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 8) Review :

Book 2 picks up shortly after where Warrior Fae finished so if you haven't read Book 1, you need to (and should - it's wonderful!). Devon and Charity's relationship is coming along nicely, but the latter's Fae magic is unpredictable and getting more and more out of control with only Devon to balance her out and reign her incredible strength in. Our old pals Reagan, Penny and Emery are roped in for some of the journey and when our friendly natural witch diagnoses Charity with magical poisoning, you-know-what gets real and Devon's pack is racing against time to get her to her people in the Flush so she can get the help she desperately needs while her life is on the line. No pressure, right? To me, this book had a different feel to it compared to its predecessor. While Book 1 seemed to hit the ground running and not stop, Warrior Princess had a slower approach and focussed on filling in some of the gaps of Charity's past and family background. The book starts with the pack visiting her abusive father and without spoiling anything, when she reaches the Flush, we learn more about the Warrior Fae and the role that have been (or rather, haven't been...) playing in the Realm. I found a few parts of the book quite sad, frustrating and emotional compared to some of this author's other books. It wasn't a bad thing, but like I said, it gave this book a different feel. Rest assured, though, this novel still had K. F. Breene's great action scenes along with her wonderful (and somewhat crazy) brand of humour, sarcasm and witty dialogue. We get to see more of the Realm with everything pointing towards Reagan's up-and-coming book (insert inner squeal here!).Charity continued to be a strong female lead. To me, she went a little out of character for parts of this book, but I was happy with how this turned out so all's good in the world. With their relationship firmly established, Devon was sweeter and more protective in Book 2, but remained his delicious, possessive self but with extra magic to boot. Like I said above, Reagan makes an appearance and boy, does she know how to make an entrance. My inner fan-girl was squealing just a wee bit when she crashed into the story. This edition sees a few new characters thrown in to spice things up. Devon is given three new, experienced pack members to test his leadership and we're introduced to some of the Warrior Fae, including Charity's family. Compared to Book 1, my beloved Vlad doesn't show up too much but I was happy to see him pop in at opportune times and continue his deviousness by dangling Charity's mother's location as bait to get her to return to the Brink as well as trying to sway things to his favour. He continues to be a great addition to the DDVN series with his manipulations and ruthlessness and you always get the sense that he's moving pieces around everywhere. While we still don't get to meet Lucifer, he is mentioned a few times and his demons are seen more prominently in this story as well as a few nice teasers from the author relating to how Reagan's world might just be about to explode. Which means she will, too :) I won't spoil anything here, but the hints from the author are goooooood. A mysterious third party pulling strings and interfering with the gang crops up a couple of times as well, playing an unknown part with the demons and vampires, so I'm expecting this to carry through to the next book as well as it seemed to involved Reagan who was about to make heads roll. We're also treated to some of the story told from Steve, the lion shifter, and I thought this was a great addition because it offered yet another view and his character's dry sense of humour was fantastic. I really hope he continues to pop up.Most of this story was set in the Realm which also gave the book a different feel as the pack tries to decipher what's what and their current relationship with a former ally. The book moves at a different pace to some of the others in this series but I promise you it's still a great read with Charity making it worthwhile towards the end.Once again, as I come to the end of one of this author's Demon Days, Vampire Nights books, I'm already asking the question of when the next book's coming out. I honestly can't get enough and as much as I enjoyed this duet, it's time for some serious one-on-one with Reagan and Darius. This book gave a great teaser as to what's brewing in the Realm with the Elves and how our favourite characters are heading straight into the thick of it. Seriously, though, K. F. When??? ;)
Warrior Fae Princess was everything that I had hoped to expect from this book. Best, almost the whole crew is back in this book to include Reagan, Penny and Emery, Roger and his crew; and of course Devon and his crew of shifters. K.F. Breene was very ambitious with this book and she moved the story along at a brisk pace never getting herself bogged down along the way; kudos for that. Vlad of course is still playing his 4D chess with everyone, but he may have me a worthy opponent in Charity's father and Charity herself. He is certainly smart enough to keep an eye out for Reagan. Good story, well done. Looking forward to the next book and maybe some resolution to Charity's quest.
